WD: How Text Is Copied Between Documents with Revision Marking

SUMMARY

This article describes four situations and the results you will get when you copy and paste text while using the Mark Revisions While Editing feature in Word 6.x. (To locate this option, choose Revisions from the Tools menu.)

Case 1

When you copy and paste text with Mark Revisions While Editing on:

   - The original text and the additions to your text are pasted.
   - The deletions are not pasted.
   - The entire pasted selection appears as added text.

Case 2

When you copy and paste text with Mark Revisions While Editing off:

   - The original text, the additions to your text, and the deletions are
     pasted.
   - The pasted text appears with revision marks.

Case 3

When you copy text with Mark Revisions While Editing off and paste the text while Mark Revisions While Editing is on:

   - The original text, the additions and the deletions are pasted.
   - The entire pasted selection appears as added text.

Case 4

When you copy text while Mark Revisions While Editing is on and paste the text while Mark Revisions While Editing is off:

   - The original text and the additions are pasted.
   - Text marked for deletion does not get pasted.
   - Revision marks are not added.
