WD: How to Open Microsoft Write Files in MacWord 5.x and 6.x

SUMMARY

The versions of Word listed at the beginning of this article do not ship with a converter to convert Microsoft Write files. However, Write files have the same file format as Word 3.x for the Macintosh files and can be opened by both Word versions 5.x and 6.x for the Macintosh.

Since Word 5.x can open Word 3.x files as "Readable Files," Write files can be imported directly.

To open Write files in Word 6x, use the Word 3.x for the Macintosh converter, which ships with Microsoft Word 6.x and Microsoft Office 4.2.

The converter is installed with a Complete or Custom installation of Word or Office. If you did not perform a Complete or Custom installation, run Setup again in maintenance mode and add the Word 3.x converter.
