WD: Included Foreign Format Document Does Not Update

ID: Q84294

The information in this article applies to:

SUMMARY

In Microsoft Word, you can use the Update Source key (CTRL+SHIFT+F7) to update changes in included documents; however, if the included document is in a foreign format, the changes will not be made.

MORE INFORMATION

You can use an INCLUDETEXT (called INCLUDE in version 2.x and prior) field to insert a portion of a file or an entire file into a separate file. If the included file is not in Word for Windows format, you can use the \c switch with the INCLUDETEXT field to indicate which converter should be used.

You can then make changes in the destination document while in the main document. To update the source document with those changes, position the insertion point in the text of the included file, and press CTRL+SHIFT+F7. If the source document is not a Word file, the changes will not be made, and no message will be displayed to indicate that the action cannot be completed.
