If you lock an EMBED field, Word for Windows does not update the field results if you edit the object. The object updates in the server application, but when you exit the server and return to Word, the original field result persists.
If you subsequently reopen the object for editing, the server application displays the updated version of the object.
In other words, when you lock a field result (by pressing CTRL+F11), you can still update the object, but Word does not display the updated object.
If you edit the object in a locked EMBED field and then choose Update from the File menu in the server, Word beeps (the Exclamation Event sound plays).
Unlock the object before you edit it by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+F11. After you edit the object and return to Word, select the EMBED field and press F9 to update the field.
