SYMPTOMS

When you use a table for the data document of a print merge in Microsoft Word, an error message may occur.

   "Data Record Too Short"

    -or-

"Record X Contains too few data fields" (Word 98)

CAUSE

This error indicates that a cell has been deleted from at least one of the records.

RESOLUTION

To avoid this error, make sure that all records have the same number of fields (cells). If a field is blank, do not delete the cell for that field, just move to the next field and leave that cell empty.
