  • Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, versions 6.0, 6.0.1, 6.0.1a
  • Microsoft Word 97 for Windows

SYMPTOMS

When you paste link an Microsoft Excel object into a Word document, the range name changes to cell reference (CxRx) format. This problem occurs when you select the object in Microsoft Excel and use the Copy Picture command. (The Copy Picture command is available when you hold the Shift key and click the Edit menu in Microsoft Excel.)

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use the Copy command instead of the Copy Picture command in Microsoft Excel. The drawback to using this method is that an embedded chart is not copied as part of the link. An embedded chart is available only when you use the Copy Picture command.

STATUS

Microsoft is researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
