Last reviewed: February 2, 1998
Article ID: Q43828
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, versions 3.0, 3.01, 3.02, 4.0, 5.0, 5.1, 6.0, 6.0.1, 6.0.1a
  • Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Word, when a paragraph is formatted with the Justify format, white space (tabs or multiple spaces) placed in the paragraph will cause problems with the text alignment.

CAUSE

In full justification, Word controls the text alignment by adjusting the spacing between words. Extra spacing can cause unusual alignment.

WORKAROUND

Use paragraph indents to control the left and right alignment of text. If columnar alignment of data is required, use a table.
