The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, versions 5.0, 5.1, 6.0

SYMPTOMS

When using Microsoft Word for the Macintosh with a Macintosh Powerbook, it is possible that the Sleep mode will not perform correctly.

This has also been reported on the Macintosh Powerbook 145b.

CAUSE

If Background Repagination is selected in the Preferences dialog box, the Macintosh Powerbook will not go to sleep. This is because Background Repagination constantly updates the screen, which prevents the Powerbook from sleeping.

WORKAROUND

To allow the Powerbook to sleep in Word, follow these steps:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Preferences.

  2. Click to clear Background Repagination.

  3. Click OK.
