WD: WordBasic Error 123 When Using 2.x Templates

ID: Q109975

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

You may receive the following error message when you use Microsoft Word for Windows version 2.x letter templates in the versions of Microsoft Word listed at the beginning of this article:

   WordBasic error 123 -- Undefined dialog record field

This problem does not occur in Word 97 because Word 97 does not convert Word for Windows 2.x macros.

CAUSE

This error message occurs because the SetLetterHeader macro, which is started from the AutoNew macro found in each letter template, calls a GetLogoSize function that has a reference to a Word 2.0 Paragraph formatting that is no longer valid in Word 6.0 or 7.0.

The SetLetterHeader macro includes references to shading and border under Paragraph formatting in Word 2.x. To correct the error, remove the references to Border and Shading from the original command line. The following is the command as it appears in the GetLogoSize function of the SetLetterHeader macro:

   FormatParagraph .Before = "0li", .After = HeaderSize$,
   .LineSpacing = 0,  .KeepWithNext = 0, .Border = 0, .Shading = 0,
   .PageBreak = 0, .NoLineNum = 0

The corrected command should appear as follows:

   FormatParagraph .Before = "0li", .After = HeaderSize$,
   .LineSpacing = 0,  .KeepWithNext = 0, .PageBreak = 0,
   .NoLineNum = 0
