WD2x: Dot-Matrix Avery Labels Missing from MAILLABL.DOT Template

  • Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 2.0, 2.0a

SYMPTOMS

If you use the Maillabl.dot template while you are running version 2.0 of Microsoft Word for Windows with Microsoft Windows version 3.0, dot-matrix Avery labels are not listed in the Label Sizes dialog box.

CAUSE

The macro used in Maillabl.dot checks to see which version of Windows you are running. If the version is 3.0, dot-matrix labels are not listed as an option; only Avery laser printer labels are listed.

MORE INFORMATION

Windows version 3.0 dot-matrix printer drivers do not support the wide variety of paper sizes necessary for the template to successfully print on Avery dot-matrix printer labels. Therefore, the macro was deliberately written to exclude Avery dot-matrix label support when Windows 3.0 is detected.

Windows version 3.1 dot-matrix printer drivers support the page dimension functionality necessary for the template to print on custom paper sizes; therefore, the macro will ask if a laser or dot-matrix printer is being used. Windows 3.1 printer drivers are not designed for use with previous versions of Windows.
