WD6: Error Message: Word Can't Find the Thesaurus

SYMPTOMS

The following error message may occur when you are running Word version 6.0 for the Macintosh on a workstation and you select the Thesaurus from the Tools menu: 

   Word can't find the Thesaurus.

CAUSE

The "MS Thesaurus" file that is installed with Word 6.0 for the Macintosh (68K version) does not allow the module to be shared among multiple users from a file server.

RESOLUTION

To obtain Word 6.0.1, call the Microsoft Order Desk at (800) 360-7561. If you are outside the United States, contact your local subsidiary. To locate your subsidiary, see the Microsoft World Wide Offices Web site at:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word version 6.0 for Macintosh. This problem was corrected in Word version 6.0.1 and Office 4.2.1 for Macintosh.

The MS Thesaurus file shipped with Word 6.0 for the Power Macintosh and Office 4.2 for the Power Macintosh have the correct file as well.
