WD6: Title Tag Missing in HTML Document

ID: Q129495

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

The HTML document you created in Internet Assistant does not contain the <title>...</title> element.

CAUSE

You did not include title text in the HTML Document Info dialog box. This behavior is by design.

RESOLUTION

With your HTML document open, choose HTML Document Info from the File menu. In the Title box, type a title for your document, then choose OK. When you save your document, the <title>...</title> element will be included.

MORE INFORMATION

The HTML Document Info dialog box is similar to the Summary Info dialog box in a Word document.

If you convert an existing Word document to HTML in which you have specified a title (Summary Info dialog), the converted HTML document will include a <title>...</title> element. If you did not include a title in the Summary Info dialog box, Word will take the first line of text in your Word document and save this information as the title. By contrast, when you save an HTML document that does not contain Title information (HTML Document Info dialog box), the first line of text is not stored as the title of your document. To include the title, you should type this information in the HTML Document Info dialog box.
