The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 6.0, 6.0a and 6.0c
  • Microsoft Word for Windows NT, version 6.0

SYMPTOMS

When you select Sentence Case, the case of your sentence does not change. (To locate this option, choose Change Case from the Format menu.)

This behavior occurs when:

  • You are using Word for Windows and your text is formatted for Title Case, Uppercase, or Toggle Case when you choose Sentence Case.

    -or-

  • You are using Word for Windows NT and your text is formatted for Title Case when you choose Sentence Case.

-or-
  • Your selected text contains a mixture of words in upper case and other cases.

WORKAROUND

To change uppercase, toggle case, or title case text to sentence case, first change the text to lowercase, then change the case to sentence case.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word versions 6.0, 6.0a, and 6.0c for Windows and in Word version 6.0 for Windows NT. This problem was corrected in Word version 7.0 for Windows 95.
