WD6X: It Takes Longer Than Expected to Build a Table of Contents

Last reviewed: February 5, 1998
Article ID: Q123432
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, version 6.0

SYMPTOMS

It takes an inordinately long time to build a table of contents in Word 6.0 compared to earlier versions of Word.

CAUSE

Because Word 6.0 repaginates the document more slowly than Word 5.x and because building the table of contents in Word 6.0 requires that the document be repaginated twice, the process is slower than expected.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word 6.0 for the Macintosh. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
