WD6X: Macintosh Balloon Help Doesn't Work in Word 6 Dialog Box

Last reviewed: February 3, 1998
Article ID: Q119079
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for Macintosh, version 6.0

SYMPTOMS

The Macintosh Balloon Help feature does not display balloons in any of the Word 6.0 for the Macintosh dialog boxes when you point at them (to activate Balloon Help, choose Show Balloons from the Help menu).

By contrast, both Word 5.x and Word 98 support Balloon Help in dialog boxes.

CAUSE

This behavior represents a change in the design specification for Word 6.0.

MORE INFORMATION

Apple introduced Balloon Help in System 7.0. With Balloon Help active, when you point at an item (either in an application or at the Finder level), a balloon caption displays that describes the function of the object.
