Last reviewed: February 3, 1998
Article ID: Q119421

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, version 6.0, 6.0.1, 6.0.1a

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Finder to Get Info on a Microsoft Word document or template, both documents and templates are identified as "Word 6 Documents." In addition, when you view the contents of your folders, if you are listing the files by Kind, both templates and documents are identified as "Word 6 Documents."

CAUSE

By design, System 7 and System 8 identify both Word 6.0 documents and templates as "Word 6 Documents."

Macintosh Easy Open as supplied with each version of the MacOS since 7.5 correctly identifies Word 6.0 documents as documents and Word 6.0 templates as templates.
