WD97: IntelliMouse Wheel Doesn't Scroll in Open, Save As

SYMPTOMS

You cannot use the IntelliMouse wheel to scroll the list of files in the Open or Save As dialog boxes. In contrast, you can use the IntelliMouse wheel to scroll through the list of files in Windows Explorer.

CAUSE

The Office 97 common dialog boxes, such as Open and Save As, do not support the wheel and wheel button.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem and scroll through the list of files in either the Open or Save As dialog box, use the vertical or horizontal scroll bars.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Word 97 for Windows. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

To use the IntelliMouse wheel and a wheel button, the IntelliPoint software must be installed on your computer. In addition, your software program must support the wheel and the wheel button.
