WD97: Width of Pasted Table Cell Changes to Width of Column One

SYMPTOMS

When you copy and paste a table cell into another part of your document or into a new document, the cell width changes to the width of the first column of the original table.

WORKAROUND

To change the width of the pasted cell back to the original width, follow these steps:

1. In the original table, click to place the insertion point in the copied

   cell.

2. On the Table menu, click "Cell Height and Width," and then click the
   Column tab.

3. Make a note of the measurement in the "Width of column <x>" box, and
   then click Cancel.

4. Click to place the insertion point in the pasted cell.

5. On the Table menu, click "Cell Height and Width," and then click the

   Column tab.

6. In the "Width of column 1" box, type in the width of the column from
   step 3, and then click OK.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Word 97 for Windows.
