WD98: Drag and Drop From Word To Trash Does Not Perform A Delete

SYMPTOMS

When you drag text or an object to the Trash on the desktop, it will not be deleted from the document.

WORKAROUND

To delete text or objects from a document, but retain a copy of the item, follow these steps:

  1. Drag the text or object to the Trash.

  2. In the document, select the text or object that you want to delete.

  3. On the Edit menu, click Cut.

NOTE: A copy of the deleted item will be in the Trash on your desktop. It will remain there until you empty your trash.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
