WD98: How to Check Spelling of Previously Ignored Words

SUMMARY

In Word when you spell check a document and click either Ignore or Ignore All in the Spelling And Grammar dialog box for a selected mispelled word, that word is saved in an internal storage area so when you re-check your document, the word is not checked. If you want the word or words to be re- checked, you need to click Recheck Document on the Spelling And Grammar tab of the Preferences dialog box (click Preferences on the Tools menu).

When you click Recheck Document, Word resets the internal Ignore All list. This means that, during the next spelling and grammar check, Word will check all words for which you previously clicked Ignore or Ignore All.

The Recheck Document button also allows you to check the spelling and grammar again after you change spelling and grammar options or open a custom or special dictionary.

To reset the spelling checker for previously ignored words, follow these steps:

1. On the Tools menu, click Preferences.

2. Select the Spelling and Grammar tab.

3. Click Recheck Document.

4. Click Yes to the following message:

   This operation resets the spelling checker and the grammar checker so that Word will recheck words and grammar you previously checked and chose to ignore. Do you want to continue?

5. Click OK.
