  • Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition

SYMPTOMS

When you use either the Mark Index Entry (press COMMAND+ALT+SHIFT+X) or Mark Table of Contents Entry (press COMMAND+ALT+SHIFT+O) dialog boxes and you click one of the enabled toolbar buttons, such as Open, nothing will happen. (Although the Office Assistant may be activated).

Note that you may have similar results when you click other toolbar buttons.

WORKAROUND

To show only the toolbar buttons that will work with either the Mark Index Entry or Mark Table of Contents Entry dialog box is open, follow these steps:

  1. On the View menu, point to Toolbar, and click to select the Drawing check box.

  2. Press COMMAND+ALT+SHIFT+X to activate the Mark Index Entry dialog box or press COMMAND+ALT+SHIFT+O to activate the Mark Table of Contents Entry dialog box.

  3. On the Drawing toolbar, click AutoShapes, point to one of the selections, and select a shape.

  4. Draw the shape in your document.

  5. Click the Mark Index Entry dialog box to activate it.

  6. Click the AutoShape and press the DELETE key.

  7. Click the Mark Index Entry dialog box.
