WD98: Some Menu Items Not Available While Spelling Dialog Active

Last reviewed: February 3, 1998
Article ID: Q177577
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition

SYMPTOMS

Many options are unavailable (dimmed) if a menu is opened while the Spelling And Grammar dialog box is active.

This behavior is different from Word 97 for Windows.

RESOLUTION

Click the mouse while the insertion point is inside the open document (this places the insertion point in the document and makes it active). The focus is transferred from the dialog to the document, and access is gained to the commands that are normally available on the menus.

NOTE: To reactivate the Grammar And Spelling dialog after clicking in the document, click the Resume button in the dialog.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
