WinWord: No Proofing Highlighted If Two Languages Are Selected

ID: Q79482

The information in this article applies to:

SUMMARY

In Microsoft Word for Windows, if you select a section of text that contains formatting for two or more languages and you then click Language on the Tools menu (the Format menu in versions of Word earlier than 7.x), the Mark Selected Text As box appears to indicate that "No Proofing" is selected.

MORE INFORMATION

The Mark Selected Text As box is unable to display more than one selection at a time. If you select a section of text that contains formatting for two or more languages, the list box is displayed with the focus at the top (which may make it appear to be selected): however, this effect is not a selection or a highlight.

If you press the tab key, the focus shifts to the OK button. If you unintentionally select the No Proofing option, by pressing the SPACEBAR and clicking the OK button, the selected text will be set to No Proofing and will not be checked if you subsequently run the Spelling or Grammar commands.
