Word 5.0: Error 20051 Using EndNote Plus

SUMMARY

The following error message occurs in version 5.0 of Word for the Macintosh if you cut text located to the left of an EndNote Plus reference, undo the cut operation, and then choose Format Bibliography from the Tools menu:

   EndNote Plus Plug-In Module: Error: 20051.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word version 5.0. This problem was corrected in Word version 5.1.

To obtain new or updated Microsoft products, call Microsoft Sales Information Center at (800) 426-9400. If you are outside the United States, contact the Microsoft subsidiary for your area. To locate your subsidiary, call Microsoft International Customer Service at (425) 936-8661.

NOTE: This problem does not occur if you create a file in Word 5.1, but it does occur in Word 5.1 if you open a file created in Word 5.0.

WORKAROUND

If this error message occurs, delete the EndNote Plus reference and the text located on the left of the reference. Retype the text and then reinsert the EndNote Plus reference.

Use the following steps if you have trouble finding the selection that causes this error message:

  1. From the Edit menu, choose Find.

  2. In the Special list, select Graphic (Word sees EndNote Plus references as graphics). In the Search list, select All. Choose the Find Next button.

  3. Continue choosing the Find Next button until Word finds the selection upon which you performed the Cut and Undo operations.

    Note: After Word finds this text block, it does not find any other graphics that occur in the document.

  4. Choose the Cancel button.

To insert a reference using EndNote Plus, select the reference text in your Word document and choose Insert Citation(s) from the References menu.
