When you start Word 6.0 for Windows after installing Word Assistant, it appears as if the Word Assistant has not been installed; the Insert and Format menus have not been modified to include Special Paper and Font Selector, respectively.
During setup, Word Assistant may not properly install its .WLL files.
Word Assistant Setup determines the location of the Word for Windows program directory and expects to see a STARTUP subdirectory beneath it. If this directory is not detected, Word Assistant creates a new STARTUP subdirectory and installs the .WLL files into it. Word Assistant then modifies the WINWORD6.INI file to redirect the STARTUP-PATH to a directory other than the default STARTUP directory.
Word queries the WINWORD6.INI file to determine the location of the STARTUP directory and runs any add-ons and .WLL files that it finds. Because Word Assistant installs its .WLL files into a new STARTUP directory, Word cannot find them.
To work around this problem, run Windows File Manager and move the .WLL files from the newly created <WinWord>\STARTUP subdirectory into the directory specified by STARTUP-PATH in the WINWORD6.INI file.
You can also reset the STARTUP-PATH to point to the newly created <WinWord>\STARTUP subdirectory by modifying the WINWORD6.INI file within Word for Windows. To do so:
1. From the Tools menu, choose Options.
2. Select the File Locations tab.
3. Select Startup and then choose the Modify button.
4. Set the "Location of Startup" to the <WinWord>\STARTUP subdirectory (for
example, "C:\WINWORD\STARTUP" [without the quotation marks]).
