The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, versions 3.0 , 3.01, 3.02, 4.0

SYMPTOMS

When editing a Microsoft Word document, the error message

Too many edits; operation will be incomplete. Save your work

may occur.

CAUSE

This message indicates that your current editing task has used up all of Word's internal editing memory (sometimes referred to as the "data space").

RESOLUTION

To free more memory, save your files and close unneeded windows. If this procedure does not help, you may also need to quit Word and restart the program.

Disabling Fast Save, quitting and restarting Word, allows more memory for editing.

The amount of editing memory is not dependent on the amount of RAM available in your configuration.

Since the amount of "editing memory" or "data space" has been optimized with Word version 4.0, this situation should occur less frequently with Word 4.0.
