SUMMARY

To use a foreign dictionary with Microsoft Word for the Macintosh versions 5.0 and 5.1, go to the Tools menu, and choose Preferences. Select Spelling, and choose the desired dictionary. This dictionary will be used for future spelling.

To use a foreign dictionary with Microsoft Word for the Macintosh version 3.x or 4.0, double-click the dictionary to start Word. When you select Spelling, Word loads the dictionary that you double-clicked into the spelling checker.

To always use a particular dictionary with Word version 3.x or 4.0, follow these steps:

  1. From the desktop, click the Main Dictionary (for Word 3.x) or the MS Dictionary (for Word 4.0), and rename it "U.S. Dictionary" or some other appropriate name.

  2. Click the foreign dictionary, and rename it "Main Dictionary" (for Word 3.x) or "MS Dictionary" (for Word 4.0).

  3. Make sure the new Main Dictionary (or MS Dictionary) is in the System Folder on your startup disk, or in the same folder as your Word application.

The next time you choose the Spelling from the Utilities menu, the foreign dictionary is loaded automatically.
