SUMMARY

Microsoft Word version 5.x and Microsoft Excel version 4.0 can share the same custom dictionary file.

MORE INFORMATION

Excel version 4.0 saves the Custom Dictionary file in a Spelling folder. The Word spelling checker can access the Excel Custom Dictionary file from that location. You can add words to the Excel Custom Dictionary file from either application. Both spelling checkers handle uppercase and lowercase letters the same way.

Note: The Custom Dictionary must be located in the Spelling folder for Excel to be able to use it.

To use the Excel version 4.0 Custom Dictionary with the spelling checker in Word:

  1. In Word, choose Preferences from the Tools menu. Choose the Spelling category.

  2. In the Custom Dictionaries section, choose the Open button.
