SYMPTOMS
========

After you sign in to MSN, The Microsoft Network, you may receive the following
error message:

   Potential safety violation avoided.

   This page contains active content that is not verifiably safe
   to display. To protect your computer, this content will not be
   displayed.

CAUSE
=====

This error message can occur for either of the following reasons:

 - The Active Content settings in Microsoft Internet Explorer may not be
   configured correctly.

 - The MSN controls may not be installed correctly.

RESOLUTION
==========

To resolve this issue, use the following steps:

Internet Explorer 3.02
----------------------

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

2. Double-click Internet.

3. On the Security tab, click Safety Level.

4. Click "Medium (recommended for expert users and developers)."

5. Click OK, and then click OK.

6. Close Control Panel.

7. Test to see if the issue is resolved. If the issue is resolved, skip the
   remaining steps. If the issue is not resolved, continue to the next step.

8. Insert the MSN CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.

9. If the Welcome To MSN Setup window appears, click Cancel, and then click Yes.

10. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files Or Folders.

11. In the Named box, type "controls.exe" (without the quotation marks).

12. In the Look In box, click the CD-ROM drive that contains the MSN CD-ROM.

13. Click Find Now.

14. In the list of found files, double-click the Controls.exe file.

15. When you are prompted, click OK, and then close the Find dialog box.

16. Restart the computer.

Internet Explorer 4.0
---------------------

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

2. Double-click Internet.

3. On the Security tab, click Medium (More Secure), and then click OK.

4. Close Control Panel.

5. Test to see if the issue is resolved. If the issue is resolved, skip the
   remaining steps. If the issue is not resolved, continue to the next step.

6. Insert the MSN CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.

7. If the Welcome To MSN Setup window appears, click Cancel, and then click Yes.
