You can then tell at a glance whether the pages have changed--without going to them. This is helpful if you want to track airline ticket prices or monitor an Internet news site. Note: Subscribing to Web pages doesn't imply mandatory fees. Such subscriptions simply allow Internet Explorer to check for changes to pages. This article covers how to: - Subscribe to a Web page - Check the status of your subscriptions MORE INFORMATION ================ The minimum requirements for Macintosh Internet Explorer 5.x are as follows: - Macintosh Operating System 7.6.1 or later - 8 MB or RAM with virtual memory enabled - 12 MB of available hard disk space for Internet Explorer - QuickTime version 3.0 or later - Open Transport 1.2 or later (for dial up connections) - OT Point to Point Protocol (PPP) or similar PPP connection software (control panel) with PPP (extension) - 28.8 kbps modem or higher - Access to the Internet through an Internet service provider (ISP) or the network to which your computer is connected To subscribe to a Web page 1. Go to the page to for which you want to subscribe. 2. On the Favorites menu, click Subscribe. 3. Click Subscribe again. Tip: When you subscribe to a Web page, Internet Explorer automatically uses the settings in Subscriptions in the Internet Explorer Preferences dialog box (Explorer menu, Preferences command) to determine when it should check for changes to the page and how it should notify you of those changes. To customize schedule and notification settings for each Web page to which you subscribe - On the Internet Explorer bar, click the Favorites tab, double-click the symbol next to the subscription page, and then select the options you want. To check the status of your subscriptions When you subscribe to a Web page, Internet Explorer adds the page to your Favorites list and marks it with a symbol to let you know whether the site has been updated since you last viewed it. 1. On the Internet Explorer Bar, click the Favorites tab. If the Explorer Bar is hidden, click Explorer Bar on the View menu. Note: Symbols on the Favorites tab indicate the following status levels for your subscriptions: - You've viewed the latest update of this subscription. - This subscription has been updated since you last viewed it. - This subscription could not be checked for updates. To find out why, double-click this symbol, and then click the Subscribe tab. 2. To go to a subscription, click it. Tip: For information about the Favorites list, see the topic About favorite pages in Internet Explorer Help. 3. On the Remote Access menu, click TCP/IP. 4. After Connect via:, select PPP. 5. After Configure:, select Using PPP Server. 6. Close the TCP/IP window. 7. When prompted to Save changes to the current configuration?, click Save. 8. In the Remote Access window, click Connect.
