SYMPTOMS

When you import .DIF (document interchange format) files to Microsoft Excel version 5.0, the last cell address will be incorrect.

MORE INFORMATION

In Microsoft Excel version 5.0, you can select the last cell of the active area of a spreadsheet by doing either of the following:

However, when a .DIF file is opened in Microsoft Excel version 5.0, you cannot use these methods to get to the last cell in your document. For example, if a .DIF file that is 3 rows by 3 columns is opened in Microsoft Excel version 5.0, the last cell should be C3. However, if you press CTRL+END, cell D3 is selected (that is, the last cell is one cell to the right of the actual last cell).

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Excel for Windows version 5.0c.
