The information in this article applies to:
Microsoft Excel version 5.0, for Windows, will not run under version 2.0 of IBM's OS/2 operating system software.
Some versions of IBM OS/2 (version 2.0, version 2.1, and OS/2 for Windows) include support for running applications designed for Microsoft Windows. However, Microsoft Excel version 5.0 will not run under OS/2 version 2.0, because that operating system only provides compatibility to Microsoft Windows version 3.0.
Microsoft Excel requires that your operating environment be Microsoft Windows (or Windows for Workgroups), version 3.1, or later (this level of compatibility is provided by OS/2 version 2.1 and OS/2 for Windows).
Note that Microsoft Excel for Windows is not guaranteed to be 100-percent compatible with OS/2 version 2.1, since the Windows support included in that operating system may not be fully compatible with Microsoft Windows version 3.1.
Note also that Microsoft Excel for Windows may not be 100-percent compatible with OS/2 for Windows, even though that operating system gets Windows support from a pre-existing installation of Microsoft Windows version 3.1.
