SYMPTOMS

When you use the United States (North America) map, column and pie chart objects that are added to the map will appear truncated if the chart object extends across a continental border or crosses a water boundary (such as the Great Lakes).

CAUSE

This problem occurs if you are using a map with multiple continental boundaries such as the North America map; it occurs because of the way objects are layered in Microsoft Data Map.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, use any of the following methods.

Method 1: To avoid this problem, use the United States (AK & HI Inset) map

option instead of the United States map option. If you want a
full map of North America, do the following to add additional
countries to the United States (AK & HI Inset) map:

          1. On the Map menu, click Add Feature.

          2. Select the desired geographical area, and then click OK.

Method 2: To remove the obstruction caused by the Great Lakes, use the
following steps to remove the feature from the North America map.

          1. On the Map menu, click Features.

          2. In the Map Features dialog box, scroll to Great Lakes, clear
the check box next to Great Lakes, and click OK.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
