The documentation incorrectly states that RSERVICE can be used to install the Remote Command Server service (Rcmdsvc.exe). CAUSE ===== Rcmdsvc.exe runs under the LocalSystem account. However, RSERVICE is unable to configure a service to start up using the LocalSystem account. WORKAROUND ========== To work around this problem, do any one of the following: - Install Rcmdsvc.exe by using the steps outlined in the Windows NT Resource Kit documentation. -or- - Obtain the hotfix mentioned in the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: Q190832 SMS: RSERVICE Unable to Configure Service to Use the LocalSystem -or- - Wait for the next Systems Management Server service pack, which will include the hotfix mentioned in article Q190832 STATUS ====== Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Systems Management Server version 1.2. A supported fix is now available, but has not been fully regression- tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. Unless you are severely impacted by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Service Pack that contains this fix.
