XL97: Errors Using Quit Method with Virus Search Add-in Loaded

SYMPTOMS

If you use the Quit method in a Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications Sub procedure, you may twice receive the following error message:

   Application-defined or object-defined error.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if both of the following conditions are true:

You are using the Quit method in a procedure.

    -and-
```
The Microsoft Excel Virus Search add-in is installed.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, use the SendKeys method. For example, the following code does not generate the error when the Microsoft Excel Virus Search add-in is installed:

   Sub Quit_NoError()

      Application.SendKeys "~~"
      Application.Quit

   End Sub

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

The Microsoft Excel Virus Search add-in is used to remove the Laroux virus from your computer. If you are using Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows, you must use version 2.0 of the Virus Search add-in. For earlier versions of Microsoft Excel, use version 1.2 of the Virus Search add-in. The add-in removes the Laroux macro "concept" virus from your computer and Microsoft Excel files.
