XL97: Using the Date Migration Wizard in Microsoft Excel 97

SUMMARY

Microsoft has developed a series of Date Migration Wizard add-ins that you can use with Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows. The first add-in handles specific kinds of dates that are in workbooks created in earlier versions of Excel. These dates use years that are two-digit numbers between 20 and 29.

THE DATE MIGRATION WIZARD ADD-IN

The Date Migration Wizard add-in for Microsoft Excel 97 helps you ensure that dates with two-digit years are handled correctly when you open a workbook that was created in an earlier version of Microsoft Excel.

The Date Migration Wizard searches the workbook for the following functions:

Downloading and Installing the Date Migration Wizard

Installing the Date Migration Wizard

After you download DateMig1.exe from the Microsoft Software Library and double-click it to extract DateScan.xla, the Date Migration Wizard, you must copy the wizard and the ReadMe.txt file to the proper folder, and then load the wizard before you can run it.

Copying and Loading the Wizard

1. Copy DateScan.xla and ReadMe.txt to the Office\Library subfolder of the Microsoft Office folder (by default, C:\Program Files\ Microsoft Office).

2. Start Excel.

3. On the Tools menu, click Add-Ins.

4. In the list of available add-ins, click to select the Date Migration Wizard For Windows check box.

   If this item does not appear, click Browse. Use the Browse dialog box to open the Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Library folder. Select the Datescan.xla file, and then click OK.

Using the Date Migration Wizard
