XL98: Background Query Check Box Not Available

SYMPTOMS

When creating a PivotTable report in Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition, the Background Query option in the Options dialog box of the PivotTable Wizard is unavailable.

CAUSE

The Background Query option is not available when creating PivotTables.

STATUS

This behavior is by design of Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition.

MORE INFORMATION

If the Background Query option were available, it would allow focus to be returned to Excel (so you could continue to work) while the query is executing in the background.

The PivotTableWizard method, in Visual Basic for Applications, has a BackgroundQuery property that can be set to True programmatically. However, setting this property to True does not actually allow queries to be performed asynchronously.
