XL98: Cannot Display "About Microsoft Excel" Dialog Box

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition, if you click About Microsoft Excel on the Apple menu, the About Microsoft Excel dialog box may not appear.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:

  • In Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition, you select an embedded chart in a worksheet.

    -and-

  • You display the Microsoft Excel Help window by clicking Contents And Index on the Help menu.

    -and-

  • The Help window is the active window when you click About Microsoft Excel on the Apple menu.

RESOLUTION

If you want to view the About Microsoft Excel dialog box, close any visible Help windows, and then click About Microsoft Excel on the Apple menu.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
