XL98: Cell Address Appears in Name Box Instead of Object Name

SYMPTOMS

The Name box may display the address of the last active cell instead of the name of the currently selected object.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the following conditions are true:

  • You select a drawing object.

    -and-

  • You click the formula bar to enter Edit mode.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, exit Edit mode. When you do this, the name of the selected object appears in the Name box.

To exit Edit mode and enter the changes, click Enter (green check mark) or press RETURN or ENTER. To exit Edit mode without entering the changes, click Exit (red x) or press ESC.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
