XL98: Defined Name "Database" Is Deleted When Using a Data Form

SYMPTOMS

When you use Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition, a defined name that you previously created in a workbook may be missing.

CAUSE

This problem may occur when the following conditions are true:

• You select cells that are in one row only in an Excel worksheet.

      -and-
  

• You define a name as "Database" (point to Name on the Insert menu and click Define).

      -and-
  

• You have attempted to use a data form (click Form on the Data menu).

WORKAROUND

To workaround this problem, use one of the following methods:

• Ensure that the defined name consists of cells that are located in more than one row.

      -or-
  

• Use a defined name other than "Database."

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
