XL98: Sheet Protection Does Not Disable Options Settings

SYMPTOMS

When you protect a worksheet, Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition continues to allow calculation of formulas in the worksheet.

CAUSE

Microsoft Excel always updates the worksheet if you change any of the following in the Preferences dialog box:

   Precision as displayed
   Accept labels in formulas
   1904 date system

NOTE: To view the Preferences dialog box, click Preferences on the Tools menu. Click the Calculation tab to view these options.

STATUS

This behavior is by design in Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition.
