XL98: Templates Are Not Displayed in Find File Dialog Box

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition, if you click Open on the File menu, click Find File, and then search for Microsoft Excel files, the Find File dialog box does not list any files that are saved as Microsoft Excel templates.

CAUSE

When you search for Microsoft Excel files, the Find File dialog box displays files with file types that are any of the following:

   BINA   LTTR   XLA    XLA5   XLA8   XLB4
   XLB5   XLBN   XLC    XLC3   XLL    XLM
   XLM3   XLM4   XLPG   XLS    XLS3   XLS4
   XLS5   XLS8   XLW    XLW3   XLW4   XLW5
   XTC    XTS    XTM

WORKAROUND

To search for templates, you must select "All Files" in the File Type list box in the Search dialog box. When you do this, all files, including templates, are listed in the Find File dialog box.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
