  • Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition

SYMPTOMS

If you copy a worksheet in Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition with the Move or Copy command, you may receive the following error message:

The application "Microsoft Excel" has unexpectedly quit, because
an error of type 2 occurred.

You should save your work in other open applications and
   restart the computer.

and Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition shuts down.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when both of the following conditions are true:

  • The worksheet contains one or more embedded charts.

    -and-

  • The workbook that contains the worksheet is protected with a Password To Open.

NOTE: The Move or Copy command is available from the Edit menu, or from the shortcut menu obtained by control-clicking a sheet tab. This problem only occurs when you copy the worksheet; if you move the worksheet without creating a copy, the problem does not occur.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use either of the following methods.

Method 1: Remove the Password from the Workbook

  1. On the File menu, click Save As. In the Save As dialog box, click Options.

  2. Delete any password in the Password To Open box, and then click OK.

  3. Click Save.

Method 2: Remove the Chart Before Copying

Remove the chart from the worksheet before you copy it. Once you have copied the worksheet, re-create the chart on each worksheet.
