SYMPTOMS
========

After you download the Encarta Yearbook Updates, you receive the following
message:

   Encarta 1997
   ------------

   No new update files were found. Do you want Encarta Encyclopedia to search
   your hard drive for updates?

   Encarta 1996
   ------------

   No new download files found in expected directory, C:\Program Files\
   Microsoft Reference\Encarta 96 Encyc\Yearbook\. Would you like to search for
   them on your hard disk?

A search of your hard disk reveals that there are no available updates.

CAUSE
=====

Your Update download was unsuccessful, or you downloaded the wrong Yearbook
Updates for your version of Encarta.

RESOLUTION
==========

Make sure you downloaded the correct files, and that they are located in your
Update folder on your hard disk.

See the "More Information" section below for correct file names.

STATUS
======

This behavior is by design. Encarta 1996 and Encarta 1997 updates cannot be
interchanged.

MORE INFORMATION
================

The Yearbook Update files for Encarta 1997 should be named as follows, and
located in the Program Files\Microsoft Reference\Encarta Encyclopedia\Updates
folder for Windows 95/98, or the Encarta\Updates folder for Windows 3.x:

   E7Aug96a.eyb
   E7Sep96a.eyb
   E7Oct96a.eyb

After successful integration, they should look like the following examples:

   Yb896a.ybk
   Yb996a.ybk
   Yb1096a.ybk

The Yearbook Update files for Encarta 1996 should be named as follows, and
located in the Program Files\Microsoft Reference\Encarta 96 Encyc\ Yearbook
folder for Windows 95/98, or the Encarta\Yearbook folder for Windows 3.x:

   Aug96a.eyb
   Sep96a.eyb
   Oct96a.eyb

After successful integration, they should look like the following examples:

   Yb896a.ybk
   Yb996a.ybk
   Yb1096a.ybk

Note: US versions of the update files follow this format:

   Encarta 97: E7<mon>97A.EYB For example: E7Jun97A.eyb
   Encarta 96: <mon>96A.EYB. For example: Jun96A.eyb.

The letter A indicates that it is the US version of the update file.
