You can click OK or Cancel. If you insert the Encarta Encyclopedia 99 Disc 1 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive and then click OK, Encarta Encyclopedia 99 starts, and you experience one of the following symptoms: - The Encarta Encyclopedia 99 home page opens and you receive the following error message: Invalid URL Encarta Encyclopedia cannot process this link request. This link is either invalid or outdated. When you click OK, you return to the home page. - The article linked to the shortcut opens in Encarta Encyclopedia 99. If you click Cancel, you receive the following error message: Encarta Encyclopedia cannot find the files needed to start. Either the disc is not inserted, or the path to the files is incorrect. To correct this, insert the disc or run Setup again. If you click OK, Encarta quits and you return to the desktop. CAUSE ===== This behavior can occur if the following conditions are true: - Both Encarta Encyclopedia 99 and Encarta Encyclopedia 2000 are installed on your computer. - You install Encarta Encyclopedia 2000 before you install Encarta Encyclopedia 99. - The Encarta Encyclopedia 2000 Installation and Resources CD-ROM is inserted in your CD-ROM drive when you attempt to open the shortcut. RESOLUTION ========== To work around this issue, use the following methods in the order in which they are presented. Remove Encarta Encyclopedia 99 and Encarta Encyclopedia 2000 ------------------------------------------------------------ 1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. 2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs. 3. In the list of installed programs, click Microsoft Encarta Encyclopedia 99, and then click Add/Remove. 4. Follow the instructions on the screen to remove Encarta Encyclopedia 99. 5. In the list of installed programs, click Microsoft Encarta Encyclopedia 2000, and then click Add/Remove. 6. Follow the instructions on the screen to remove Encarta Encyclopedia 2000. Reinstall Encarta Encyclopedia 99 and Encarta Encyclopedia 2000 --------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Insert the Encarta Encyclopedia 99 Installation and Resources CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. 2. Follow the instructions on the screen to install Encarta Encyclopedia 99. 3. Insert the Encarta Encyclopedia 2000 Installation and Resources CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. 4. Follow the instructions on the screen to install Encarta Encyclopedia 2000.
