MORE INFORMATION ================ To troubleshoot display issues with Microsoft Reader, use the following methods in the order in which they are presented. Adjust the Microsoft Windows Display Settings --------------------------------------------- To adjust the Windows display settings, use the appropriate method for your version of Windows. Microsoft Windows 95, Microsoft Windows 98, or Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me): 1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. 2. Double-click Display. 3. Click the Settings tab. 4. Move the "Desktop area" or "Screen area" slider to the "800 by 600 pixels" setting. 5. In the "Color palette" or Colors box, click High Color (16 bit). 6. Click OK. 7. If you are prompted to restart the computer, click Yes. If the issue continues to occur, proceed to the "Adjust the ClearType Text Settings in Microsoft Reader" method. Microsoft Windows 2000: 1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. 2. Double-click Display. 3. Click the Settings tab. 4. Move the Screen area slider to the "800 by 600 pixels" setting. 5. In the Colors box, click High Color (16 bit), and then click Apply. 6. Click OK, and then click Yes. 7. Click OK, and then close Control Panel. If the issue continues to occur, proceed to the "Adjust the ClearType Text Settings in Microsoft Reader" method. Microsoft Windows NT 4.0: 1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. 2. Double-click Display. 3. Click the Settings tab. 4. Move the "Desktop area" slider to the "800 x 600 pixels" setting. 5. In the "Color palette" box, click "65536 colors", and then click Test. 6. Click OK, and then click Yes. 7. Click OK, and then close Control Panel. Adjust the ClearType Text Settings in Microsoft Reader ------------------------------------------------------ To adjust the ClearType text settings in Microsoft Reader: 1. Start Microsoft Reader. 2. Click Guidebook at the bottom of the screen. 3. On the Microsoft Reader Guidebook cover page, click Quick Settings. 4. Click Adjust ClearType. 5. Follow the instructions on the screen to adjust the ClearType text settings. If the issue continues to occur, proceed to the next method. Reduce the Graphics Hardware Acceleration Setting ------------------------------------------------- To reduce the graphics Hardware Acceleration setting for Windows 95/98 or Windows Me: 1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. 2. Double-click System. 3. On the Performance tab, click Graphics. 4. Move the "Hardware acceleration" slider until it is one notch to the right of None (the Basic acceleration setting). 5. Click OK, and then click Close. 6. When you are prompted to restart your computer, do so. If you are unable to restart your computer successfully, restart the computer in Safe mode, and then restore the original Hardware Acceleration setting. To do this: a. Restart the computer. b. If your computer is running Windows 98 or Windows Me, press and hold down the CTRL key when you see the "Starting Windows 98" or "Starting Windows Me" message on the screen. If your computer is running Windows 95, press F8 when you see the "Starting Windows 95" message on the screen. c. On the Windows Startup menu, select Safe Mode. d. Repeat steps 1 through 6, moving the "Hardware acceleration" slider back to its original position in step 4.
