This article describes how to copy the contents of the Encarta CD-ROM to the
hard disk in your computer.

Copy Encarta to Microsoft Windows XP
------------------------------------

To copy all the Encarta files to the hard disk on Windows XP, follow these
steps:

1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel

2. In Control Panel, click "Add or Remove Programs".

3. In the Currently Installed Programs list, click the name of your Encarta
   product.

4. Click Change.

5. In the Encarta Setup Wizard, click Next.

6. Click Modify, and then click Next.

7. Click the icon next to "Copy to Hard Drive", and then click "Entire feature
   will be installed on local hard disk".

8. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete Setup.

Copy Encarta to Microsoft Windows 2000
--------------------------------------

To copy all the Encarta files to the hard disk on Windows 2000, follow these
steps:

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

2. In Control Panel, double-click "Add/Remove Programs".

3. In the Currently Installed Programs list, click the name of your Encarta
   product.

4. Click Change.

5. In the Encarta Setup Wizard, click Next.

6. Click Modify, and then click Next.

7. Click the icon next to "Copy to Hard Drive", and then click "Entire feature
   will be installed on local hard disk".

8. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete Setup.

Copy Encarta to Microsoft Windows 98 or Windows Millennium Edition
------------------------------------------------------------------

To copy all the Encarta files to the hard disk on Windows 98 or Windows ME,
follow these steps:

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

2. In Control Panel, double-click "Add/Remove Programs".

3. In the Currently Installed Programs list, double-click the name of your
   Encarta product.

4. In the Encarta Setup Wizard, click Next.

5. Click Modify, and then click Next.

6. Click the icon next to "Copy to Hard Drive", and then click "Entire feature
   will be installed on local hard drive".

7. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete Setup.

   NOTE: Copy to Hard Drive copies the whole product to your hard disk. There is
   no option to copy only one part, for example, only the Atlas.

   NOTE: Copy to Hard Drive does not work from a network installation except for
   DVD or Standard versions. Disk-swapping is not supported by the Network
   installation.
