DOCUMENT:Q116430 15-APR-2000 [powerpt] TITLE :PPT: Font Substitutions - Macintosh to Windows PRODUCT :Microsoft PowerPoint for Windows PROD/VER:MACINTOSH:4.0; WINDOWS:4.0,4.0a,4.0c,7.0 OPER/SYS: KEYWORDS:kbreadme kbdta kbconversion kbFont ====================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The information in this article applies to: - Microsoft PowerPoint for Windows 95, version 7.0 - Microsoft PowerPoint for Windows, versions 4.0, 4.0a, 4.0c - Microsoft PowerPoint for Macintosh, version 4.0 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SUMMARY ======= The following information is about substituting fonts when you convert presentations from the Macintosh to the Microsoft Windows platform. MORE INFORMATION ================ From PowerPoint 7.0 Help: When you convert a presentation from Apple Macintosh to Microsoft Windows, you might not have the same fonts on both computers. You can replace fonts that you don't have with fonts you do have. 1. In Microsoft PowerPoint for Windows, click Replace Fonts on the Tools menu. 2. In the Replace box, click the font you want to change. 3. In the With box, click the font you want to substitute. The following table illustrates how fonts for PowerPoint presentations are converted from Apple Macintosh to Windows. If the exact font name exists on both computers, PowerPoint uses that font. Otherwise, PowerPoint converts the font and retains the name, letting Windows perform its best mapping of the font. Macintosh font name Windows font name ------------------- ----------------- Avant Garde Century Gothic Bookman Bookman Old Style Helvetica Arial N Helvetica Narrow Arial Narrow New Century Schlbk Century Schoolbook Palatino Book Antiqua Times Times New Roman Zapf Chancery Monotype Corsiva Zapf Dingbats Monotype Sorts From PowerPoint 4.0 Help: PowerPoint checks if the font name is in the table, then uses the table mapping. This is done so that fonts are mapped to TrueType fonts whenever possible. If the font is not in the table but the exact font name exists on the system, PowerPoint uses the exact font name. Otherwise, PowerPoint maps the font as FF_ROMAN, ANSI_CHARSET and retains the name, letting Windows perform its best mapping of the font.
