XADM: Specifying the Service Account Incorrectly

SYMPTOMS

You receive the following error message during the installation of Microsoft Exchange Server 5.0:

No mapping between account names and security Ids was done.

In Exchange 5.0, if a group is specified instead of a service account, you will receive the following error message:
Account information is incorrect.


CAUSE

This error is displayed if a global or local group containing the Microsoft Exchange Service Account was specified instead of the Microsoft Exchange Service Account itself.


RESOLUTION

There are two resolutions to this problem. Either specify the Microsoft Exchange Service Account when prompted during the Microsoft Exchange installation or make sure the RPC services are loaded. To verfiy the latter, follow these steps:

  1. Double-click the Networks icon in the Control Panel.


  2. On the Services tab, make sure RPC Configuration is installed. If it is not installed, click Add and select it from the list. Then restart the Windows NT Server, if prompted.


  3. Double-click the Services icon in the Control Panel.


  4. Make sure the following services are started:

    Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Locator
    Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Service
