XADM: System Attendant Crash During GWART Calculation

SYMPTOMS

The Microsoft Exchange System Attendant starts to use 90-100% of the CPU time and then crashes with the following error message:

Unexpected function: function "SC RUN RideX" exception: 0xc0000005 location: 0xbdb5781D occurred.
Following this, a Dr Watson log is generated:
Application MAD.DBG Generated an Application Error
Exception Error C0000005 at address 0xbdb5781D.


CAUSE

The problem is caused when a Microsoft Exchange Gateway Address Routing Table (GWART) containing a potential circular route, is imported from one Microsoft Exchange Server into a second Microsoft Exchange Server. When this second Microsoft Exchange Server attempts to regenerate it's GWART to remove the circular route, it crashes.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Exchange Server version 4.0. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Exchange Server 4.0 U.S. Service Pack 2. For information on obtaining the service pack, query on the following word in the Microsoft Knowledge Base (without the spaces):
